Between the Folds

One of the most inspiring documentaries I’ve seen in a long time is a beautiful film about the art and science of origami.Between the Folds “chronicles the stories of ten fine artists and intrepid theoretical scientists who have abandoned careers and scoffed at hard–earned graduate degrees—all to forge unconventional lives as modern–day paperfolders.”

What I find most interesting about this film is how closely origami relates to magic. In the way a paperfolder explores the endless possibilities with a single uncut sheet of paper is just like a magician discovering the potential to create miracles with even the most simple object as a coin.

Vanessa Gould, the director, said that the film is about “the potential to see things differently”, and this is exactly what magic is about. I hope you enjoy this film as much as I did and that it inspires your magic to unfold in all new directions.

PBS showed this a few months ago — it really made me to start using origami both with cards and magical themes — the wet paper concept is unbelievable!
