Tyson Mao

Tyson Mao first learned to solve the Rubik’s Cube in 2003 and set the world record for 3x3x3 blindfold solving in 2005.He is the co-founder of the World Cube Association, the international governing body that regulates competitive Rubik’s Cube events, and currently serves on the board. Tyson has been on numerous television shows such as Anderson Cooper 360, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Today Show, and he was a cast member of the second season of the reality television show Beauty and the Geek.

In 2007, Tyson met John George at a WCA event in San Diego and the two collaborated to produce You Can Solve It!, a Rubik’s Cube tutorial DVD that covers a beginner solution, speed solving, and blindfold solving.

Tyson Mao currently serves as director of the United States National Rubik’s Cube championships, and currently works as a trader for a hedge fund in San Francisco, California.
